The 8th Asia-Pacific Symposium on Music Education Research will take place in Taipei, Taiwan 2011. Welcome to submit papers and hope to see you all in Taipei next year!!


Call for Papers

The 8th Asia-Pacific Symposium on Music Education Research (APSMER) will take place at Taipei Municipal University of Education in Taipei, Taiwan, July 4-6, 2011. The conference theme, Promoting Excellence in Music Education, is supported by six sub-themes including curriculum, instructional approaches, teaching materials, musical behaviour, assessment and technology. The APSMER invites participants including music educators, scholars, graduate students and interested individuals to submit proposals to present.


Important Dates
Deadline for abstract submission: November 1, 2010.
Notification of acceptance: January 31, 2011.
Full paper submission for inclusion in the proceedings: March 31, 2011.


Categories of Presentations:
  • Keynote speeches

    Professor Wei-Fan Kuo is invited to deliver an honorary speech; Professor Margaret Barrett, Professor Graham Welch, and Professor Jackie Wiggins are invited to deliver keynote speeches.

  • Spoken papers

    Paper presenters will deliver their research findings in 20 minutes, followed by a 5-minute question and discussion session.

  • Posters

    Poster presenters will deliver a summary of their research in poster format, affixed to a display board. During the poster sessions, presenters must be present, for the entire session to allow for interactive discussion.

  • Panels/Roundtables

    Panels/Roundtables provide an opportunity for small groups of presenters to address a special topic in 90 minutes. Each session must be organized by a moderator who will discuss the theme, invite table members to comment, convene and time each paper, and lead discussion.

  • Workshops

    Music practitioners are invited to deliver interactive workshops involving conference members in practical and innovative activities in music education. Each workshop will last for 60 minutes.

  • Graduate students forum

    Graduate students will present their studies in Chinese to share their research findings and solicit feedback. In each session, four presenters will respectively address their research in 15 minutes, followed by a 5-minute feedback session. The last 10 minutes will be the concluding session.
